{This is a Be Wealthy Post}
I have operated my own business for ten years. My #1 mistake was looking for perfection in my team, rather than extracting their Inner Genius.
I tell you this because I do not want you making the same mistakes. I want you to learn from my mistakes, avoid them, and have the success you deserve.
My clients pay me well for my past mistakes, and that I can help them avoid them.– Jim, COO
I chatted with Jim after yoga class. He helps big companies turn things around. I help small businesses. So we got to chatting about how our years of wins and losses is what current clients pay for. He asked me about my approach, and I mentioned the Soul + Business approach, and how I like to focus on the Inner Genius in each person in the company. Then, he added…
It’s all about the people.
Yup, it is.
Whether we have a few contractors working for us or full time employees, asking for people to be perfect is the surest way to fail as a company, but asking people to uncover their brilliance & create an environment that supports that? The formula for success. Hands down.
Sometimes we are so hyper focused on sales, marketing, and quarterly revenues that we forget to stop and look at ways we are leaving money on the table by not leveraging the genius within our existing team.
This recently happened with one of my clients. We had a first meeting of her virtual team, and we uncovered $200K of business, plus a team member that has the skill set & passion to tap into a new market this business can serve; we think this could be worth $1M/ year in revenues. Now, it will take time to ramp up, but when they are ready, we can capitalize on this beautiful soul that brings something fresh to the team. We would not have uncovered this precious human gold mine had we not asked the questions…
You may be wondering, What are the questions to ask to uncover $1M in revenues?
Before we get to the questions, the #1 Attitude & Mindset to hold as a business owner is that the equivalent of that million dollars in your business is knowing that all the answers are within you & your team. The trick is to have the third party perspective to uncover it.
So, now, The Questions & the Solutions:
Question #1 : what works & what does not work for this team member?
It is important to create a safe space for her to speak freely. No interruptions. And if someone interrupts, then bring the attention & focus of the conversation back to this team member.
Solution 1: Finding a solution for what does not work. Sometimes this means asking others to step in & help.
Solution 2: Do more of what works. Create ways to make it easy for her to do more of it.
—
Question #2: what does she think the company could do better to serve current clients & attract new clients?
Solution: take fierce notes on what she says. Team members have the accurate finger on the pulse perspective.
—
It is important that team members understand the financial & humanitarian goals of the company. This can be a vulnerable topic for smaller businesses, but if the trust has been established, it is an important conversation. I love to see business owners have an incentive plan for goals met; even a small bonus can inspire someone to walk the extra mile for the business.
May you uncover the Inner Genius of each team member & ask the right questions to uncover your very own $1M revenue growth model.
Love,
ASHA
