{This is a Give Back Post}
If you have a pulse, you probably know that there is tragedy in the world. Wars are happening, women are being hurt, and children are dying. And it is not fun to see and be a part of a civilization where this is a norm.
When I was eight years old, I thought I had seen poverty and suffering living in Venezuela, but nothing could prepare my little innocent eyes to people begging with missing limbs, or housing conditions that shocked me when I went to visit India as a child. See, my uncle is a doctor, and he had started a hospital. We went to see the hospital, and I swear that what I saw was like nothing I had seen before or ever since! Yes, I was only eight, but something in my heart woke up. My compassion just exploded, and I felt a sense of purpose in my life. That was my moment of knowing what I was here to do in the world. I vowed that day that I would do everything possible to help those people.
Throughout the years, I forgot about my vow. I climbed trees back in Venezuela, went to boarding school, studied Molecular Biology in the U.S. , moved to Boston, met a guy, got married, had kids, etc. I had always had an intense spiritual curiosity, and without knowing what I was doing, I was slowly building my intuition and my connection to my heart, soul & the Universe.
But as life was happening, I remember feeling confused by why God could take children away from their parents, why countries would start wars, and why on earth would God let good people suffer?
Do you ever have that question?
My childhood friend, who’s a famous celebrity in Venezuela, posted on facebook how she lamented such tragedies, and I thought her courage to be vulnerable merited a response. See, my friend is a new mom, and I know that when I think about the future of this planet and the civilization that we foster for our children, urgency takes center stage. I have a feeling my friend is feeling similarly.
How is it possible that we can think it is OK to live this way? Her questioning is perfect. She questions God. Much like Mother Theresa did. She questions how could a God who must be loving allow for all this?
The truth is that either there is a perfect plan or God has nothing to do with it. I don’t really know.
What I do know is that we have created this mess, not necessarily some omnipotent Essence. We have. Now, this is not to beat ourselves up, this is to activate a solution within each of us.
If you go to blame or despair, I get it, but I invite you to snap out of it. It won’t solve a thing, Beloved.
The Solution: the solution is for you to take ownership and make a difference in your home. Yes, in your home. Make a difference in your own beautiful heart. Intend to live a life that is authentic. Create a ripple effect of goodness.
One thing I know for sure is that if every single damn person on the planet is living their purpose, and able to provide all needs & soul wants for themselves & their families, we would have a happy world. I know that. I feel that.
So, I invite you to start doing that today.
And although a small purpose is good. A ginormous one is even better. The more that you super-size your purpose, the more that the Universe will conspire to assist you.
Dream big. Connect to dreams that are BIGGER THAN LIFE. Allow yourself to go there. The bigger your dream & purpose, the bigger ripple effect you will have in the world. And that my friends, offsets suffering & tragedy.
