Steps to Evolving

{This is a Feel Good Post}

Last week I had a conversation with one of my dearest colleagues, a man who’s work I adore, respect, and admire. He had gone through major transformation, and honestly, his story reflected mine, and it made me think about you as well..

I heard from a few of you after my blog post on naming your business, and I heard how relevant that advice was to you. I have a feeling you are ever evolving, or as I like to call you, an Evolved Entrepreneur.

You care about change, you care about authenticity, and you care about #FeelGood #BeWealthy #GiveBack.

As an Evolved Entrepreneur, you go through transformation all the time. If you are new to seeing your evolution this way, I want to offer you some suggestions on how to elegantly midwife your change, because let’s face it, whether we like to admit it at the time or not, change is always really fricken good!

Steps to Evolving:

Something prompted the evolution; usually a fail. It’s ok, you are human, and your secret is safe with me.
You are tempted to give up, but instead I encourage you to Surrender to Your Sweet Soul. Trust this beautiful process, but don’t take yourself out of the Surrender.

Your brilliance cannot afford you surrendering all the time, and leading you to total confusion. However, if it is working for you, by all means, keep doing what is working

Allow Space. Sometimes you have to integrate the good, bad, ugly and beautiful. Make sense of it, and move from there. Give yourself a time limit. It will help!
Be clear on what + who you need. Support is the key to Evolution + World Revolutions. Get high level support, and on the ground support (think Mentor/ Coach + Support staff)

Take Action. I’m a fan of action, inspired action, preferred please. Take action, without being impatient but act with curiosity
Stop + Access the Level of Effectiveness of your Action. It’s ok to mess up, it’s ok to not do things perfectly, but pause and be honest with yourself.

A Forced Pause

{This is a Feel Good Post}

Sometimes I go really fast. Actually I joke with my husband that I am the fastest person I know. I do more work in 4 hours than most people do in a week. Until I hit a pause. I used to get frustrated at the long pause in my stride. I used to get angry with the slowing down. Until I started understanding the wisdom and brilliance of the pause and the cycles.

Tonight I paused. Forced pause.

See, my husband is a light chaser (photographer) and so he craves color and beauty. Although we were all ready to head home, he made a pit stop at the Pond in our town.

To sit, pause, and enjoy the beauty of the colors and the light.

These pauses feed me, as passing as they may seem to the untrained eye. Capturing the array of colors even if just from my phone is a reminder of the beauty that exists in our complicated planet.

Beauty abounds. Kindness Abounds. Moments to remember abound. Should we stop, even if we are forced to stop. Those who force us to stop are usually part of our tribe; the community of people who get us, who support us, and who know the way our soul is needing to ground more fully.

May you find the tribe that nudges the sweet pause.

My Family or My Clients?

{This is a Feel Good Post}

It was last year, 2014. I was torn: my family or my clients.

(You know, the age old Work Life Balance thing again.)
I almost sent the email to every single one of my clients. I’m impulsive, and most days, the email would have been sent right away, but a little voice in my head said, sleep on it.
The email read: I am sorry, but for family reasons I am going to need to cancel our coaching session for the month of August.
That’s how dire it was. I didn’t even have enough time or band width to call every one of my clients and tell them what was going on, and how our coaching would resume in September. My little girl needed me. She is the barometer in our family, and she was saying Something is off.
And so, as the momma that I am, I had to change that.
But, I slept on it.
We decided to have a family meeting. At dinner, we talked about how something seemed to be off in our family, and that this is OK, but that we needed to do something about it. I told my husband and my two daughters that I was going to take the month of August off to be with them, to ground myself & them.
Now, it is perfectly fine to take a month off from my business, but my clients had not been prepared for this, so that is the part that was feeling unsettling.
I was going to let them down.
I knew most would understand, be disappointed and either wait until September or not come back to working with me. And my daughter needed me.
The response my kids gave brought tears to my eyes.
The one who was having a tough time said, I don’t think you should do that. You love what you do and your clients need you. The younger one echoed the sentiment.
And just like that, we came up with ideas of how we could make things better. More than the ideas, it was the being honest, the conversation, and most importantly the AWARENESS of what was going on for each of us. It was as if that conversation gave everyone an opportunity to take accountability, to work as a team, and to support each other through this tough time.
I will never ever forget that dinner conversation.

And hence, why dinner time is precious to me.

I want it to be a sacred place we get to enjoy one another, where we get to be compassionate (even if some don’t always want to eat their greens), and where we are each heard.
As an Entrepreneur, so many of us have pieces that pull us away and make us question what we do, what we don’t do, and how we do it. I will tell you, after this, I recognize that no matter how young, our kids want our honesty, want authenticity, and if the kiddos want that, I would bet that so does everyone else in our lives.
May you find a way to be honest, and may you find a way to speak the truth in a way that brings those you care closer together, rather an apart. For you, for your soul, for your family, and for the soul of your business.

p.s. and let me just say that it was this moment last year, that inspired me to change my business entirely. I upgraded big time, raised my rates, and created both one on one model of clients but also group based programs. I am grateful for my girlies bring me, including the toughie moments.

20% Happier

Just what the soul doctor ordered.

A silent retreat.

We all have distractions and craziness in our lives. Between jobs, relationships, driving, food shopping, meals, kid’s after school programs, and finally making it to yoga class on Sundays, we have perfected multi-tasking in our culture, even while driving to and from activities.

I am a soulful momma, 100%, but I am also a business owner, and as such, I work a lot because I want to make a ridiculous difference in the planet.

And at least once a year, I go into silence. I have definitely tried this at home with my family, and well, let’s just say, it does not work, not even for one hour. I started this practice about six years ago, and at the time I would go to silent retreats. Then I started leading women in them, and last year I did a self-led silent retreat… I may have some control issues. In all fairness, I have loved the flow of my retreats and so I entrusted my soul to guide me.

This past week I went to one where I opened my mind and heart to a calling of my soul. I have, I guess some would call a Mystical experience with Paramahansa Yogananda, in fact, my husband jokes that I look like I could be his twin sister. I am not a fan of organized religion and religious or spiritual organizations, but I am very drawn to the energy of Yogananda, not even always of his teachings.

In any case, I gave into silence for two days and it was just what the soul doctor ordered.

I meditated constantly, wrote ideas, ate in silence, slept like a baby and even got to witness the most glorious sunsets overlooking the pacific ocean.

Why silence?

We expend so much energy talking, engaging, making small talk, deep talk, any kind of talk, negotiating relationships & contracts. Everywhere we go, we feel obligated to perform at some level, through our words, our demeanor, and our presence. I have always enjoyed being at home alone, recharging, but when you unplug from social media (ok I posted once on Instagram & Facebook), from emails, and from schedules, the entire system has a chance to take in a deep breath and enjoy the simplicity of the moment.

Yes, we are left with our thoughts. Lots of them. The first day is rough. Even for pros. I know the first day, I had a handful of moments where I wanted to just escape and have a nice latte somewhere. But after each meditation sitting, I felt more and more settled in my soul.

I didn’t want to leave

I may have cried a tear feeling so fulfilled by the silence, and they didn’t even ask me to join the cult. Haha! I joke, but some of these places have a bit of a hard sale, so I was glad I walked away with so much gratitude for the people, the place, the teachings, without much pressure to return.

I over gave on the donation. Because to me, this was priceless.

Coming home, you ask?

Oh yeah, the plane ride was so loud and definitely felt like sensory overload.

Coming home to the chaos and whines was a bit of a shock too. Once I cried a few tears of confusion for this path of motherhood, self- employment, and living in reality, I settled into my iphone quite nicely, only this time, I am taking time to meditate upon waking and before going to bed. That feels good.

Do I recommend it? Absolutely.

It feels good to take a break from life, plug into my soul, have some good food, a little silence, alone time, and then the clarity of purpose upon the return.

Hello 2015! (and Some Support for YOU!)

I am a sucker for new beginnings! (Read below to jump into a way that I want to support you!)

Mostly because it reminds me that we always have choice to be at a place of choosing what we want to create in life.

I am upgrading myself big time in 2015 in so many ways that feel like a hUGE S-T-R-E-T-C-H…. All of this reminds me that we are not intended to do this life and business thing alone.

Although I am a big fan of listening to our intuition & our OWN voice, there is something magical that happens when we allow someone to mentor us into our best fricken self. I not only love being mentored, I love mentoring, and creating space for people to feel safe to transform.Some people that join my programs take me up on it and make pure magic out of their lives.

Just yesterday I had an in-person meeting with one of my VIP clients who runs two businesses. Having her tell me how everything is lining up in her life beautifully is a wonderful validation of the work, but more importantly, it is a validation of her readiness and willingness to transform.

As a powerful woman she will be upgrading her life in 2015 and I GET to mentor her through it. I am 100% blessed to do this. Believe you me!

The hope we all feel at the beginning of a year is pure magic.

And I also know that by end of the month, some people go back to same ol’, same ol’ … I know that failure is a part of life, and it gives us an even more profound opportunity to grow, re-adjust, and get up & try again. So, in a sense what we see as “falling down” or “failure” is more like we are bounding on a giant trampoline. And the way we see this bouncing is entirely up to us.
