{This is a Be Wealthy Post}
I see this myth permeate our culture. Multi-level marketing de jour telling you to market to your friends. Tell them how the product has helped you, evangelize them because you know it is good for them.
They mean well, I suppose. But, let’s me honest nobody wants to be sold to. People love to buy, but sold to? No thanks.
Your friends don’t care to see your before and after photos. They are happy for your transformation and will most likely support you, but become your customers? Maybe, but in my opinion, that is not a sustainable business model.
There is a world of people waiting to have you help them solve their problems. Some may be your friends, but most are people you don’t yet know.
Build a movement. Build a message. Build a company.
How do I know that your friends and family are not your customers?
From darn experience, my friend.
When I first started in business for myself, I had created a Childbirth Course because I had gathered resources & for myself had a painless childbirth, so I thought, “I can help other women who want this.”
When I launched my course, two of my sister-in-laws were pregnant. I thought, “Perfect! they can be my beta testers”. They had no interest. Both went on to have medicated births, by choice and one due to poor health. And it hit me like a ton of bricks.
“If I wait for my family and friends to buy my products, I am never really going to build an empire. Never. Ever.”
Many of us fall into this trap to market to our friends on facebook. I mean, guilty as charged; very once in a while when I see people do this, I get sucked and lured into it myself, but remember… this is not a sustainable model.
So what is?
Cast a larger net. Create the FB Business Page. Do it. Start sharing who you are. Start sharing what you care about. Start giving value. Start engaging with those that resonate with you. Build relationships. Yes, sure, some turn into friendships, but the net deserves to be casted on those who are yearning for your solution.
Think bigger. Be bigger. Create an empire. Let your friends support you, and be bold in knowing you have something to offer besides a product.
And if a company is telling you to market to your friends, I would personally run.
Blessings,
ASHA
