{This is a Be Wealthy Post}
My client, Sarah, left her full time job to start her own business. She had some clients lined up as she exited her job, but had not secured contracts. She enrolled in one of my programs where I support Women Entrepreneurs, we created a revenue strategy that aligned with the current market needs, and she began her journey of self-employment.
Five months after her exit from the corporate world, she is projected to bring in $20K/month. And yet, when I congratulated her at our latest ½ DAY VIP session, she was not quite clinking Champagne glasses.
Why?
Because the reality of those of us who are in business for ourselves is that we don’t know if contracts will be signed or renewed. Heck, we don’t even know if the cash flow can facilitate personal (pesky) emergencies, or take care of our monthly bills.
Sarah is doing well – make no mistake about that – but she found herself in a very common place.
Sarah can make one of two mistakes:
1. She can let her fear get the best of her, give up, and go back to working for someone else
2. She could continue her business, have the dark cloud of fear over her, and make decisions from that place
OR she could make the decision to LOOK FOR SOLUTIONS.
Of course, as a devoted member to The Success Sisterhood, she is opening up to trust more every day. I asked that she consider two more practical actions:
-
Favorable payment terms for the clients who had that flexibility to pay her more up front
-
Honor the favorable terms either with a slight discount or included an extra item that would not cost her anything (like membership to an online course).
Some of you may feel shy about asking for more favorable terms – lucky just to have people enroll as clients, I get it… But you are missing out on a HUGE opportunity.
You see, sometimes the more favorable terms for us, allow for our clients to get something that they really want. They may have really wanted that online course you offered last year. The fact that you are asking the question and providing options allows them to open up to feeling of being taken care of by your company, even before you start to truly serve them.
I cannot stress this enough: Trust and Practical Solutions are a winning combination when owning a successful business. Just take it from Sarah, who now has the confidence to ask for what she needs, and – even better – she has delegated the negotiation to her assistant, who happens to be her mom.
May you allow yourself to have it all, in that special way you want it. 😉
